Concept

Who or what is the subject and how many subjects are in the piece? What are they doing? Is there a setting? If it's abstract, what is the overall idea of the work? If you're not sure about anything else, try to narrow down a general theme/topic for the piece.

Style

What medium(s) are we working in? Do you prefer bold colors or more subtle tones? Is there a style you are drawn to and would love to see? Is Realism your thing or is Fantasy more up your alley?

Don't worry! If you're not sure, I'll work with you to figure out a style that works best for the piece!

Size

Size can be everything!  For statement and abstract pieces, bigger is typically better. However, groupings of smaller works can be just as impactful. Consider what works best for the space and how size might impact it.

IDEAS

Want to commission a work but don't know where to start? Here are some ideas for basic styles and mediums.

Portrait

Often times I'm asked to complete a portrait to remember a special event, memory or likeness of a beloved person or pet. These can range from a simple rendering with a plain background to hyperrealism with an equally intricate background. Consider traditional and timeless versus more fun and modern.

Fantasy/Creative

These works are for the dreamers. Fantastical artworks showcase creativity, aesthetics and personality through various styles. If you want to see something you've never seen before in reality, this might be your best bet.

Abstract

Fun to look at art. Abstract art has no figure or object to latch your eyes onto. That's why many rather associate abstract works with emotions and feelings. If you're looking for a work that fits into a mood, color palette or has a certain energy to it, abstract is your best option.

MEDIUMS

Choosing your medium is key in determining how much texture, detail and color are in the work. While Pen and Ink will give you stark blacks, thin lines and immediate contrast, Watercolor paintings are soothing with their flowing movements and transitioning colors/opacities. This is why Ink drawings lend more to graphic styles while Watercolor lends well to abstract and fantastical styles.
